Why we are a self-pay service
-
We have chosen to remain a self-pay practice because we believe counseling is most effective when the therapeutic relationship and the client's needs—not an insurance company's requirements—remain at the center of care.
-
Using insurance can involve requirements related to diagnosis, medical necessity, treatment planning, prior authorization, documentation, and limits on the scope or duration of treatment. Federal mental-health parity protections address some of these limitations, but insurance plans continue to differ in their requirements and coverage.
-
By not participating with insurance companies, we are able to create greater clinical freedom and privacy for our clients. We can work together to determine what brings you to counseling, what you hope to accomplish, and what kind of care is appropriate for you without designing treatment around an insurer's authorization or reimbursement requirements.
-
This also means that you have greater freedom to decide whether counseling is right for you, what you want to work on, how often you would like to meet, and when your work together is complete. Your care is not required to fit within a predetermined insurance framework.
-
Choosing a self-pay practice does not necessarily mean you cannot use your insurance benefits. Some health insurance plans provide out-of-network mental health benefits, which may allow you to receive partial reimbursement for services from a provider who does not participate with your plan. Because benefits vary substantially between plans, we encourage you to contact your insurance company directly to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits, deductible, reimbursement rate, and any claim-submission requirements
